Reminds of a Thomas episode of a crash into a barbershop.

No doubt Sir Topham Hatt's CSX counterpart was VERY cross!

Had these two rail items been installed and in place this problem may not have happened in this manner...
Would it hamper operations much if the dead-end leg of the wye had an increased grade to it? So if any rolling stock broke through the end, steepness to it would just have the engine/car would not fire across the alleyway. Or that wouldn't matter if there's enough momentum to the train..

DGC: That locomotive had to have been moving at a speed enough to end up running through
the bumper block and then crossing the alley and crashing into the garage - #2757's "Black Box"
should offer to investigators what the actual speed was at the time of the impact...

In this case trying to turn the locomotive on the wye with remote control was a cause of this mishap...
An Engineer (and Conductor) on board making this move would most likely not made this blatant error...

In closing CSX should accept being at fault and settle with the Homeowner for the damages...
The Homeowner should not have to get legal help in this case to remedy this problem...MACTRAXX

Nah, they are too busy tiring to fire 4 more employees. (there were 2 crews involved)

Homeowner should be able to claim the locomotive for salvage value if it's on his property.....

You know how this could have been prevented???

No magical grades!!

No beefier bumping blocks!!

Just put the engineer on the head end where he belongs and let the conductors pull pins and through switches.

Always remember the flunky on the ground is in charge, but the window licker in the cab is in control. :-D :-D :-D

How about getting rid of remote controls engines and removing the burden of carrying a RC pack around your shoulders while hanging on a car with 2 man crews??

Well yeah, not having to drive the locomotive while wearing this, without someone else to spot you would improve safety.
