There was a turntable pit on the grounds of Schenectady Chemicals (then Schenectady International, now SII Group), past the end of the current rail spur going into the plant. Not sure what it was used for originally, no one seemed to know. It got filled in the early to mid 1990's, but it certainly seemed to be a turntable pit and you were able to see the faint remnants of the rails leading up to it. If you look at the attached link you can see the faint outline, to the right (east) of the water tower, and the trace of the rails runs left (due west). The USGS map shows it a little better. Anyone have any info?

The ALCO Plant in Schenectady also had a turntable on the East side where the Golub offices now sit.

Two things:

1) A friend found a postcard of the NYCentral yards north of Corning. It shows the yard, of course, and a bridge over a stream, and a huge roundhouse on the west side of the stream. It's http://www.flickr.com/photos/russnelson/5884105387/ and the bridge still exists. I have a photo of it linked from that Flickr page.

2) There's a roundhouse pit at Greycourt near Greycourt Avenue. I'd check on Scott's page, but it's responding with "bad hostname".

There was a turntable but no roundhouse on the Erie RR Dunkirk Branch at Dayton NY. The pit is still visible. There was a turntable at Lockport NY on the NYC Falls Road Branch. Pit is still visible. There was an enginehouse but no turntable at Canisteo NY on the NY&PRR.

I'm having webpage issues..problems with my host, mylargescale.com.

Wherever you see the word "gold" on any of my webpages, change "gold" to "1stclass" (without the quotes)
and everything will work normally..

I have about a billion links to change. :(

Interesting- don't think I've ever seen a roundhouse in a pit.

Greycourt had a turntable- the pit walls are still there. It was an L&HR table, and as far as I know there was never a roundhouse associated with it.

The remains show on Bing Maps, just across Greycourt Ave. from School St.:
