That makes sense... because the Erie left downtown Corning in 1955, after it dieselized.

Howdy, I lost track of who in this thread created the Roundhouse & Turntable webpage. Very Nice, Well Done. Thanks !

I do remember that there used to be a what I thought was a turntable inside a private industry along the NYCRR Niagara Branch somewhere between Black Rock and the Town of Tonawanda. My memory seems to think it was in one of the large grain elevator complexes that existed in that area (around Kenmore Ave and Military Rd perhaps?). I seem to remember seeing it from passing Amtrak trains in the 1979-1980 era.

I think one of those grain elevator complexes had a "car tipper". Believe it or not they used to take 40 ft boxcars and tip the whole d--m car to help pour the grain out of the doors ! This was related to me by my Father who worked in that area as an NYCRR Engineer back in the day. Of course that was before they invented the covered hopper.

Anybody got any ideas on this one ? One possibility is that I spent too much time in the lounge car and was seeing things after a long trip !

Ok, who's got the time to start a webpage with all the towers across NY State ? We can use the same format, it seems to be working.

Cheers, Kevin

That TT has been gone for better than a decade, and the pit filled in for almost as long. Current aerials barely show where it had been. RH burned in '52. I KNOW where they were, but would be hard pressed to find evidence on site.

There is an existing L&HR TT concrete pit ring about 10 miles up the line at Greycourt- the table itself possibly went before WWII- circa 1950 at the latest (I'd have to do some digging). Never a RH.

New York Central Round House in Auburn, NY used to be located across from the prison it was taken down in the late 60'? early 70's?

Lehigh Valley Railroad Round House still stands in Auburn, NY it has servived 6 fires all of them were deemed arson sents the LV left town... The building still has 3 or 4 of the original wooden roll up doors on it. 3 or 4 bays to the round house have been removed all damaged by fire. The pit was filled in many years ago. Its now being used for storage?? first by a Tree cutting company then a junk dealer now its owned by???

It's still very visible where it was, although torn down.
TT replaced in 1924 with 105'.

Someone claimed it existed in a post here in the NYC forum, it was on the first page the other day.
