Via Rail unveiled a new Comfort/Economy-class fare plan today. This was accompanied with a national newspaper advertising campaign. Apparently, there are TV ads, too.

I noticed the new VIA ads on TV and radio today. Nothing spectacular but a far cry better than some their other recent ad campaigns.

The TV ad subtley showed a passenger crossing his legs with plenty of room to spare while the scenery passed by the window. It closed with the message "a more human way to travel".

The radio spot went something like this:
Man: Guess what I'm holding behind my back
Woman: Hmm... I don't know, peanuts?
Man: No, it's the cost of a train ticket to Montreal.
Woman: Well, it sure looks like peanuts.
Man: Exactly.
Announcer: Check out VIA Rail's new Flexi Fares. Prices of a one-way ticket between Toronto and Montreal start at a low [price]. VIA Rail, a more human way to travel.

Sounds stupid. They want to be less like an Airline with their high fairs.
