Hello all, I've noticed that SEPTA is currently in the process of procuring a new diesel switcher locomotive from the Knoxville Locomotive Works. As far as I can tell, this new locomotive meets EPA tier 4 standards and is not a genset like 70, it appears to be similar to 80 in design albeit a whole lot uglier. My guess is that SEPTA will test this locomotive and will order more like it to replace the ageing ex-MILW EMD switchers and the 2 notoriously unreliable custom built RL1as.

What are your thoughts? I've linked some screenshots of it below as well as a JWDS screenshot.

Looks like a serviceable locomotive.

It's coming, it should be on the property tomorrow (Friday). Then begins the long looooong process of testing it and getting guys qualified.

Five of these things coming. Replacing everything except the 80.

Update: NS took it to Pavonia. Whoops. Try again later.

I like the look of #90. Seems like a quality locomotive.

I caught it coming back west on 39G today, after it accidentally went to Pavonia on 38G. Not quite sure how they managed to **** that up but whatever.

It would appear that it has HEP capability, unless it is for pass-through only...
We will find out someday.

Coming in Saturday morning on 38G, SEPTA should pick it up on Sunday morning if i had to take a gander.

Hopefully this time they don't mess up and take it to Camden, again.

92 has been dropped in Abrams after going to Pavonia/Camden.... seems that NS didn't learn they're lesson the first time.

52 has also been decommissioned and sold to KLW, has yet to leave the property. the first of many engines to go.

93 is already en route, departed Knoxville today.

Why do they paint the work motors in blue? Everything else Septa has is silver with stripes.

I myself do not know, but if I had to take an educated guess it's to help differentiate between revenue and non-revenue service equipment. As MOST of SEPTA's current diesel fleet are incapable of running passenger trains, due to either the lack of Head-end power support or the lack of horsepower and reliability. What I do know is the blue and yellow paint scheme originated some time back in the early 90's with the purchase of 60 and 61 and the temporary acquisition of 3 New Jersey Transit U34CHs for the Rail Works Project. Before that, all equipment such as 50, 51, 52, and (90, 91, GP9s) were painted in a primer like grey paint with SEPTA logos plastered on.

If someone knows the actual answer feel free to enlighten me.

SPAX 80 went to pick up "KLWX 3" this morning, one more to go, should start to see the rest of the oddball fleet being sold off to KLW after 94 is accepted.

KLWX 94 left Knoxville this morning, going via 16T and H44 this time around, shouldn't accidentally go to Pavonia like 90 and 92 did.

94 was delivered today
