Wednesday 9-14-2011 More new windows were installed and a new section of deck frame was added along the east wall.

The next work session will be Saturday 9-17-2011.

As it is with any organization, fund raising is a high priority. We are no different. We have the volunteers to do the physical work but we need money to buy the materials. At this date our treasury is very low and there are bills waiting to be paid. Any donation whether large or small will help finish the depot restoration. Our biggest upcoming expense is finishing the roof with material that looks like the original slate. The cost estimate for that is $10,000.

Send your donations to:
Hopewell Depot Restoration Corp.
P. O. Box 144, Hopewell Junction , NY, 12533.

We will have a table at the East Fishkill Community Day. We need volunteers to help with the sales and information. If you have some time to work with us, contact us at 845 221-9330.

Saturday 9-17-2011 The attached photo was our sales and info table at East Fishkill Community Day. A work crew and a sales table were also at the depot. It was a good day for sales and donations and we also made some new friends.

It was a cool brisk day and the crew did some finishing work around the deck while the electrician worked on the interior wiring. The next work sessions will be Wednesday 9-21 and Saturday 9-24.

On Thursday 9-22 we will be doing a dog and pony show for the East Fishkill Town board meeting. If you are available, come to the meeting wearing you Depot T-Shirt.

New storm drains have been added to keep the flooding out of the basement. New base boards have been added along the deck and missing battens have been replaced. Meanwhile, the Rail Trail maintenance crew is on the job.

The next work session will be Saturday 9-24-2011

Saturday 9-24 was a cloudy day but no rain. The video crew from the Town of East Fishkill was interviewing people on the Rail Trail and around the depot volunteers. Since we have the grant money coming from the town, we began setting up scaffolding for the new roof covering.
Meanwhile our electrician was preparing the electrical service into the building.

The next work sessions will be Wednesday 9-28 and Saturday 10-1. The priority will be the new roof covering.

The Hopewell Depot now has a new sign donated by Bill Kimbark.

Despite the occasional drizzly rain our volunteers climbed on the roof to install new underlayment for the new roof.

The weather is supposed to be cooler and dryer on Saturday 10-1-2011. We plan to continue working on the roof.

We need volunteers with experience in roof work.

It finally stopped raining and we had a crisp, blue skies, fall day here in Hopewell Junction. With the background sounds of hammering on the roof, East Fishkill Supervisor, John Hickman, presented the grant check for $11,000 to buy the faux slate roof covering. The actual installation of the new roof covering will be done by Lupine Roofing as a sub contractor to be paid by Toll Brother Construction. A professional Lupine roofing crew will do the work as soon as we can get the new shingles ordered and delivered. When the roof is done and water tight we can start work on the interior even if the weather turns bad.

‎10-8-2011 We had a beautiful, crisp fall day today. The main project was the underlayment for the new roof. In addition we did a bit more of the trim around the deck. The faux slate for the roof is on order and should be delivered in a week or so. Then we will arrange with Lupine Roofing and Toll Brothers to have the professional crew install the new roof covering.

Our next work sessions will be Wednesday 10-12-2011 and Saturday 10-15-2011.
Work will continue on the deck trim and the roof underlayment.

Stop around and see for yourself what we are doing. We would be glad to have you join in.

Wednesday 10-12-2011 was a cool cloudy day but some finishing work continued on the roof underlayment.
Also grading was done for the base of the new sidewalk.

The next work session will be on Saturday 10-15-2011.

Come on down and help us with the sidewalk and deck trim.

Today was a brisk fall day with lots of wind blowing the leaves around. The forms for the new sidewalk are now ready for concrete. While the digging was going on several other volunteers were touching up the paint and giving some TLC to the only remaining original door. They also organized a bucket brigade to move the salvaged bricks back onto the roof to for the chimney restoration.

Despite the wind and occasional sprinkles, there were quite a few Rail Trail visitors who bought T-Shirts and made donations.

Our next work sessions will be Wednesday 10-19 and Saturday 10-22. Stop around and chat a while.
