I don't recall having difficulty explaining the peak/off peak concept to customers. It's around seven years since we had that, and I still have an occasional customer, who hasn't ridden our trains in a while, ask if fares are cheaper after rush hour.
I read a suggestion somewhere that peak and off peak fare be brought back.

We still sell off peak round trip tickets on portions of the old Erie affected by the "hold down" agreement between NJ Transit and Metro-North. I work a different part of the railroad, and have never done it.
