I am making a Layout for Trainz Railroad Simulator and I intend to model the Erie New York Division late 1940's Early 1950's. I have attempted to make a model of the Erie Terminal Headhouse that was on Pavonia Avenue. This building was poorly photographed and demolished in 1960. The best I could do was attempt to model it based on the info I have and solicit comments. Please note many of the views I am showing you would be obscured by either the trainshed or the ferry Terminal. In many cases I made guess's about what the building looked like.

Nope V as in Virtual this is a 3d computerized model for use in a railroad simmulator. No room for a model railroad in my home.

Hi,

I have seen virtual layouts on this and other websites that gave me the impression that they were real layouts. Your images are underexposed and so are difficult to see and visualize. Some of the fellas with MSTS have produced images that make you think that they are real. One fella actually had to send me an e-mail to straighten me out. Fooled me completely.

Good luck and keep trying.

The images were taken in 3d Canvas Pro. My textures will not fool you that they are real account the digital camera I used doesn't have the pixel resolution when it gets enlarged to hold photo true I would need to buy a better digital camera. Since the image is hard to see I will export the model and retake the pictures. The problem has to do with the fact that I am taking a 3 by 5 image and blowing it up into a huge poster.

The photo at "http://img181.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... al3ag4.png"
was the only one that I could open.

I used the ERIE Termenal often n the late 1930s. The picture did not do much to waken memories.

The covered walkway held up by posts was only on the south, Pavonia Ave., side of the Terminal. On the West side were the train sheds extending from a high covered passenger access area.

On the east side was a large high covered area through which passengers and vehicles could reach the three ferry slips.

East of the area was a long pier. The marine department offices were located on the second floor of the Pier.

On the north side there was an engine escape slot for track 12 and access tracks to the car float bridges.

A covered pedestrian over pass extended from the track 12 area north to the next pier after the carfloat area

I don't think I've ever seen any pictures of Erie's terminal... except for one from 1960 that showed the terminal after abandonment...

I found this image while doing a Google search for "erie jersey city terminal."

If you could show us some larger images of your model, that would probably help...

Right now I have just completed the headhouse only. I can assure you from my research that the veranda went around the entire building except the area by the train shed I have no question about this. However; The ferry terminal joined the front veranda it would be very dark and dirty under there and passengers going from the trains to the ferry would not generally have passed under that area unless they walked through the waiting room. The North side of the terminal was joined by the LCL house that had the ERIE Lighted sign on it. Again this side of the terminal would be dark and poorly illuminated even less people would have walked on this north side of the building. The columns under there would be dark and dirty and this would not appear to be a veranda but a covered walkway. The veranda appears in the original plans of the terminal it was definitely there but again only on the Pavonia Avenue side would people have noticed it.

There's a route for MSTS that includes the terminal. It has all trackage east of the Hackensack, including the Weehawken docks. It has the DL&W too, all railroads in the Jersey City area.

There's a bunch of payware and freeware Erie and EL locomotives and cars.

HSSRAIL: Although not located in the V world, if you live in the area the Jersey City Public Library probably has some pictures that would help. Close to the Grove Street PATH stop. The 4th floor is New Jersey history and the librarians there are extremely knowlegebale and helpful. They have tons of stuff.

The book Railroads of Hoboken & Jersey City by Kenneth French published by Arcadia Publishing has a couple of really good pictures of the old Pavonia Ave Terminal. They are that publisher that makes all those City & local history books you see in the library and in Barnes and Noble.

They are cheap and have pretty good pictures. I have this one.

Here is the link for the book from the publisher:
