I don't see a link in your post: which website?
The earliest American railroads seem to have had different standards of track construction from those of the early British railways: imported British locomotives tended not to do well in the U.S., at least until modified (cf. the "John Bull"). So I doubt the locomotive shown in the drawing saw much service in the U.S. in the form shown.
