From Yahoo NERAIL List:

Anyone hear about this sale? MM&A to get the QCR?

Chris

The Quebec (City) <Journal de Quebec> today(1Dec) has a report that J-M
Giguere and an American company[GB: MM&A] have come to an agreement on
terms of sale of the Quebec Central, and that the papers will be signed
on
or about 20 December.

(The sale has been in the offing since the spring, when JMG let it be
known
he was interested in selling. Under MM&A ownership it is possible that
most of the line between Sherbrooke and Vallee Jct will be abandoned,
particularly east of East Angus.)

It yould be sad that part of the QCR would be shut down after only a few years of being reopenned :(

Hello All,
The last I heard on this was that the paper retracted that statement - this was per a post on the MMA-rail yahoo group.
I would recommend to get the latest on the MM&A, that interested parties join up!

The Legislature today proposed a bond package that would include funds for the state to purchase the MMA lines proposed for abandonment.

AP News Article, on WGME13-DT website, March 2, 2010
About half of the package announced Tuesday would go to highway reconstruction. It reserves $20 million for the purchase of rail lines in northern Maine railroad that are abandoned. The rest goes to school energy conservation and clean water projects.

The Transportation Committe has also endorsed a proposal for a $25 million bond issue to allow the state to purchase the rail lines proposed for abandonment by MMA. This proposal is separate from the 'jobs bond' proposal and would have a question on the ballott in November. The proposal passed the committee by a vote of 8-2.
