Milwaukee Road bandits

Caught SOO 2010 in Minneapolis last month... closest to the MILW that I'll ever get! SOO 2010 is an ex-Milwaukee Road GP40, built as MILW 190 in March 1966. Later renumbered 2010, it was conveyed to Soo Line in 1985.

There's another bandit, a switcher, that can be found around Pig's Eye. It's been a while since I've seen it, but not that long. I seem to recall seeing it serving the Ford plant.

We got a bunch of ex-Milw "Bandits" when we started the DM&E.

Our original power consisted of two groups of locomotives: ex-CNW SD-9's (inherited from CNW) and ex-Milw SD-10's (I can't remember where those came from).
IIFC, the SD-10's (not a real EMD model designation) were SD-9's that were uprated with 645 power assemblies. Ersatz SD-38's, so to speak. It took several years before they were all painted into DM&E colors.

Some of these "Bandits" had the classic running "Hiawatha" figure painted in silver on their black snouts. This was the same logo that was done in stainless steel on the bulkheads of the passenger cars, the running Indian inside a vertical oval.

One day, these engines started appearing with the logo painted over in black. I found that to be very irksome!
