Thought I would bring this thread back from its slow death, I stopped by today since the monsoon had passed the clouds cleared and the sun came out,I took a couple of shots of the power; all of course from public property! I'll also add the Raritan Center job I caught this past Tuesday as well.

I got a treat today at Metuchen Yard, I thought it was 1999 again with all the blue. Anyway here are the photos all of course from Public Property.

I'm curious as to why that caboose is there. I wonder what jobs they'd be using that for, and when.

I'd gladly eat up some personal days to snap a few pictures of a hack in service outside of the Browns Santa train.

Its used on the NEC they have a SPLAT for other moves. Honestly the hack you should be looking to shoot is red and is out of Dover, the hack in these photos is in really bad shape sadly.

They need the caboose as when they are shoving on the NEC when a 125 MPH train goes by on an adjacent track, shelt can be a really good thing.

I saw the caboose on the end of one of the ME (18 maybe?) trains heading south on the NEC through Edison station
last Friday around 3pm. Loco #5286 was on the head end with 3 covered hoppers sandwiched in between.

Here's a shot from two years ago with 5 engines in the yard: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 516&nseq=2

With ME10 replaced by the Oak Island Job for moving cars back and forth, and the slower business now, they're down to two engines from 5 two years ago.

Yup, that's how they usually serve Deans. Are you sure this was ME-2? This was always ME18 pior (and LI26 in the years before ME18.)

I caught same train doing a reverse move NB on the NEC through Edison Station around 3:30pm.
The caboose(cr 22137), 4 covered hoppers, 1 hopper, 1 tank car, 1 covered hopper, NS #5286(GP 38-2 ).

Here it is entering Metuchen Yard:

The pick-up truck spoiled the shot:

Thought I'd pull a photo from my archives which also shows all Conrail blue in Metuchen Yard. This photo is from January 28, 2007, and the engines are NS GP38-2s 5290 & 5286 along with the blue caboose.

Conrail blue laying over for the weekend

And since Nick mentioned the ME10, here's a photo of it from Metuchen station on April 18, 2006. The ME10 was a neat train to catch, and I particularly enjoyed the SD40-2s when it had them. But no complaints at all about this engine leading!
Conrail ME10 with NS GP38-2 5290 and CSX SD40-2 8857 as the trailing unit
(These two photos are slide scans)

Enjoy!

I also have to upload the photo, but at the end of June, I saw a NS SD40-2 coming out of Metuchen Yard with a string a cars and the train headed for the NEC. The time was probably between noon and one o'clock.
