MBTA 1008 and 1013: Can They Be Saved?

$30,000 is not bad for a fundraiser, about the price of a new midsize sedan.
Since my friend continues to chain smoke nonstop, she is probably an Alco.
I recently heard something about F40 #1013 being kept on MBTA property to serve as a kind of prop or display, from what I heard, it appears that they plan on gutting it completely and having it sit somewhere within BET, can anybody provide any insight on this?
