I'm assuming they aren't overhauling any more MBBs? NETransit states 5 more MBBs coming up under "At Kinki-Sharyo for overhaul:" yet nothing has come for years.

A few CT rail branded MBB's when by on the Readville Switcher tonight.

I’m not an insider, so I can’t give you a concrete answer. I do believe that the mbta doesn’t want them back because of the new rotems expansion coming in.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth ... when it comes to ADA bathrooms in the blind coaches.

Rumor has it they are going to be used to "fill out" the Geometry Car visit

When I was heading to the railfan day, I saw 1508 and another MBB behind it

honestly I hope it gets overhauled and remains an MBB cabcar. maybe it could be used to test rebuilt locomotives at Rochester

Sadly, I don’t see them overhauling any more single level coaches as we have enough doubles as it is. Hence, we are getting more in a couple of years to replace the remaining single level coaches.

If they are scrapping Bombardier and Pullman-Standard coaches which are still mechanically sound (I believe) then unicorn MBBs have a bleak future.

some MBB coaches should go into a museum. like the 4 cabcar units that are used to test the rebuilt locomotives.

When they were new they were my favorite due to the comfortable 2+2 seating that was fully flippable. The slab siding and mysterious round eyelets on top (possibly for catenary?) looked much more modern than those old-fashioned RDC cars, amfleets, and other coaches with fluted siding which i now know were indicators of quality.

The eyelets are, of course, lift rings.
The seats in the MBBs remind me of the school buses I had to ride in elementary school, but I did enjoy the big windows.

The bigger windows are probably another iconic feature on the MBB coaches.

For some reason, I was never interested in these coaches when I was younger. Now that they're disappearing, I'm starting to miss them.

I don't know why, but all the coaches had restrooms. Including the cabcars. (That must have been the reason why on the northside, they'd put MBB coaches in the middle of a consist, more specifically the front)

I dont know what I'm saying anymore.

The SEPTA Silverliner IIIs had the large windows as well, everything else Comet/Arrow/Silverliner has small
windows.

One version of the story is the small windows on these cars were designed (along with the Metroliner/Amfleet) in the late 1960s when rock throwing incidents were on the increase, though in the case of the Metroliner, the
fuselage body was aimed at the Eastern Shuttle.
