MBB Overhaul

Did anyone hear why 1507 and 1531 were pulled from service? Not long before I saw 1507 beautifully running in service and 1531 was too but I haven’t seen that in a while.

MBTA is storing cars that aren't currently needed for the reduced ridership under COVID, cheaper to store than to maintain. You can bet they'll probably store more in the near future too.
My guess is the 500s/1500s going into storage likely won't run in revenue service again. By the time they're needed the new Rotems will probably be arriving.

They are also not overhauling as many at the moment because of the reduced ridership. Depending on when normalcy will come back will determine whether they bring back more cars or not. That depends on when the majority of the population gets vaccinated and the offices and stuff opens back up fully.

The MBBs are the oldest cars in use, makes sense to store them, The MBBs on lease to ConnDOT, can be used on the service north of Springfield after the Amtrak "Demo" service contract ends.
Hopefully soon the cars on SLE service will be put on the ConnDOT Trains to Springfield as the M-8s go online for SLE services in the near future.

Actually, the Pullmans are a decade older than the MBBs, and the 300-series Bombardiers are the same age as the oldest MBBs.

Right, just change the first digit to 2 and magically the cars are 20 years newer!

The Pullman 200 series are the oldest cars in use today. The MBBs are the second, followed by bombardiers, then Kawasaki’s, then the rotems which are the youngest.

MBTX 540 (Rebuilt for an MBB cab car) has a waybill to come back from NJ

The only ones it could be is ex 1500, 1502, 1519, or 1523 since those are getting renumbered 539-542

I thought some or most of the Bombardiers were older than the Messerschmitts.

MBB 1987-88, Bombardier 1987-88 and 1989-90.

The bombardiers 1600 and 600s are about 1-2 years younger than the MBBs. The Pullman 200s series are the oldest and haven’t been overhauled at all. Actually the only ones in the entire fleet that hasn’t been aside from the 900 series k cars and the current fleet of MBBs that are operating or stored as operable.

The 200 series Pullmans are actually the only cars that have been rebuilt, in 1995-96.

The 200-series Pullmans (1978-1979) were totally rebuilt in the mid 1990s from the 300-345 series BTCs and 1300-series CTCs rebuilt into BTCs.
