I like the MBB cars myself, and I think 1533 is still a cab control car, for now. As for the 1600s, some should be able to operate Southside especially the Providence line with PTC installed.

But Itll be interesting when the MBBs will have their cabs removed and become blind trailer railcars. I also like the original seats they are comfortable so I tend to seek out and sit in an MBB railcar

The 531 has been spotted on CSX Q436 today out of Selkirk. Should be the first MBB
back from overhaul in New Jersey.

Great to hear that cars are starting to come back that was stored in the sea view yard which is just south of the wickford junction station. This car 531 was originally a blind and still is. Cars that are numbered 539-42 are going to be former control coach with cabs stripped 1500, 1502, 1519, and 1523. The others that were stored here were refurbished there and sent to the cdot long-term lease program which had ctcs 1505, 1509, 1518, and 1520 along with blinds.

FYI car 531 which recently came back from being rebuilt at kinki sharyo is now officially in testing.

The 531 now back in service, assigned up north. I wonder if the design of it is different since it was in New Jersey and not down in Rochester.

The only thing I believe is different is that it isn’t a south coast rail car unlike the ones that were rebuilt in Rochester which are. Pretty sure the interior and exterior is the same design as always. We shall see once someone spots it.

534 released from Rochester today and should be on an extra to Readville today along with newly overhauled 1074.

Any idea what former coach 534 was rebuilt from? The only one that I know is 533 which was formerly control coach 1503.

533-542 will all be rebuilt from cab control coaches, but that's all I know.

Big inventory update regarding the MBB fleet. We do have clarity now on the rebuilt control cars:

533 is apparently the former 1517, after being listed as 1503
534 was formerly the 1503
535 was formerly the 1515

Several cars were also lifted from service and dropped off at Seaview.

Extra tomorrow is bringing Coaches 249, 502, 504, 524 & 1514 to Seaview.
Wonder what's up with the 249.
Rumored Wednesday is that this group went to Seaview: 500,504,507,515,1507 & 1531

Are these MBBs that have hit the end of their shelf life and would need to be rebuilt if used again?

There’s also the 1529 which is listed as going to sea view. Any idea what happened to 1507 and 1531 that is causing them to go to sea view to be stored? I have a feeling that they are going to be rebuilt at kinki-sharyo and have their cabs deactivated. We shall see what happens though. They made a mistake twice listing 533 as first 1533, then 1503, now 1517.

There's a point where overhaul will require too much $$$$$ to be spent,by now some of these cars have become part supplies for the remaining fleet to stay running.

Which is why a couple of mbb cars were scrapped a while back because of that such as 1516 and 1532 as examples. Most of them in storage needs some fine tuning to bring them back into service which is what kinki-sharyo is doing to the mbb’s. Rochester I believe completed the cars that were rebuilt there from ctc’s to btc’s which were 4 cars with 520 as the original blind.
