Heres one I always wondered...In a few photos I have of the Poughkeepsie Bridge, it was painted half silver, but never completed. What whats the deal w that?? Also the symbols that the NH used (i.e. NO-7, OB-2, Im assuming the letter for Maybrook was O.) could someone translate these for me? And last, was there a signal on the Highland side of the river governing eastbounds onto the bridge? The only track charts I have show CP East Highland, which looked to be a few miles west of the span where it went to single track for the bridge. Acording to maps there was no intermediate signals between CP Poughkeepsie & CP East Highland, is this correct? What about the days the gauntlet was used, was there a signal on the west end of the bridge? Thanks alot for the info guys! Dave Magill

New Haven freight symbols were as follows:

A -- Hartford
B-- Boston
C -- Framingham
D -- Waterbury
E -- Bridgeport
EW -- East Walpole
F -- Fall River
G -- Bay Ridge
H -- Harlem River/Oak Point
I -- State Line
J -- Fitchburg
K -- Brockton/South Braintree
L -- Lowell
M -- New London
N -- New Haven (Cedar Hill)
O -- Maybrook
P -- Providence
Q -- Pittsfield
R -- Danbury
S --Springfield
T --Taunton
U -- New Bedford
W -- Worcester
Y -- Holyoke
Z - Hyannis

Thus, NO-7 was Cedar Hill to Maybrook and OB-2 was Maybrook to Boston.

"X" was used for local freights, preceded by a letter indicating the division, as in NX-# for the New Haven Division and BX-# for the Boston Division.
