Maspeth Yard, Yaphank Ave Projects

Wednesday's Newsday had a small article that said that Gov. Paterson approved a $2 million state grant for the LIRR. It funds a $1.8 million grant to expand the Maspeth rail yard. It also provides $270,000 to improve track infrastucture and bridge clearance at Yaphank Ave in Brookhaven. The grants are part of a $42 million rail and port improvement project.
I haven't heard any details about these grants or if the port improvements will help NYNJ Rail. Does anyone have any additional info on these projects? Is the Yaphank project related to the new Brookhaven Spur or Calverton Spur or both?

I don't get it. Where is maspeth yard suppose to be expanded to? how? They'd have to buy out some businesses south or maybe west of the current yard, and $1.8M wouldn't buy a lot of land in NYC, even in an industrial area.

Current yard area is full via SKY aggregates.
