It's very likely WV pays MARC to pay for bus service between Brunswick and all points west, and that will be the end of that.

West Virginia coughed up the dough. MARC Service to West Virginia is now fully funded and cuts no longer are needed.

I think someone may have also remembered that US 340 through Harpers Ferry is a parking lot in rush hour. This service is pretty crucial for commuters who can’t tolerate the lack of capacity across the Potomac in that area.

Beyond what TheOneKEA said about US 340, West Virginia must have realized it barely matters to Maryland if the trains turn back at Martinsburg or at Frederick, and that it would lose an economic advantage by eschewing service. MARC held the better cards.

Now, let’s see them fund a corridor NYP-CHW.
