I was trolling nycsubway.org and came across these pictures at Mamaroneck. The only one that I can be sure of being Mam'k is the second picture, which has Halstead Ave in the background. I am positive the 1st picture is NOT Mam'k - that building bears no resemblance to the station building in Mamaroneck, which has not been at track level since 1925. I am also fairly certain the fourth picture is not Mam'k, as I do not recognize the background buildings, and again, the station should not be at track level. The third I am not so sure of, but fairly certain it IS Mam'k. That looks like the Mam'k Avenue overpass with the old-style signals on tracks 3, 1, and 2 (there was not a switch there, but I believe it was a signal block, with the next signal being around Larchmont).

Pictures 2 and 3: How long were the platform structures (shelters/rooves) in place? I'm wondering if it was right up until the modernization (high-level). Interesting view-point on that third picture. If I'm correct that the picture is just west of Mam'k Ave, you'd have to climb up a pretty steep embankment to get the shot from track 4 (unless it's from a railfan window). The NH between Mam'k Ave. and Fenimore Rd. is mostly on a stone viaduct (Bishop Av side) or steep retaining wall (Hoyt Av side with no sidewalk alongside). There's only a short stretch along Bishop where you can access the viaduct closest to Mam'k Av. Also interesting that it was a two-car "dink" are they called? You'd never see that today!

Pictures 1 and 4: Any ideas where they are?

Stamford. #1 pic is looking east from the eastbound platform, showing a westbound train and the westbound station building.

#4 pic is looking west from the westbound platform, from north of the station building. The pic shows the original low-level platforms and estbound station building.

Third pic is a westbound train just south of Mamk Ave overpass.

This photo looks like South Norwalk. Too many trees in the background. Can't see Pocket 5 or 6, but I'd bet money the shot is SoNo.

This photo looks like Port Chester?

This photo is ancient Stamford! Wow!

Either way, I'll defer judgement to Mr. Malone...

Ah, c'mon Otto, whadda I gotta do, take youse around to those spots in person??

Look at the one you think is SoNo. The tracks east of the station, in the distance, make a left hand curve, just like they do in Stamford. East of the So. Norwalk sta, the mainline curves right, goes past SS44. No high electrical masts to get the wires over the drawbridge are visible either.

Remember, the big open distant area behind the train (which is now full of big tall ugly buildings) was wide open in the early-mid 70s. They hadn't finished tearing the rest of old Stamford down.

And "Port Chester"???? Don't you recognize those buildings on Halstead Avenue? Sheesh, you Harrison guys!!!!

So, where you takin' me for dinner, you having lost the bet? I'll settle for a standing dog from Walter's.....

Ah yes, I see that now... I forget that Stamford and SoNo had very similar station buildings...

I think the perspective with the low-level platforms is screwing me up. Deifinitely Mamaroneck, with the Rockland Ave. bridge in the background.

Ugh, I'll buy you all the Walter's dogs you want, the only thing I get from the pagoda are the egg creams. ;-)

Rockland is quite a ways off from there. That would be Mamaroneck Ave. trestle, in both of the actual Mamaroneck shots actually.

Are you dissing Walter's? Too bad the old GIrl Scout (what was the official designation?) NYW&B station isn't still open, you'd be pretty close for your egg cream. Man, it's been so long since I've had one of those, I've forgotten what one was. I'll take a Chocolate Malt, thanks.

Yes, that's what I'm saying... Rockland Ave is the overhead bridge in the distance.
Are you dissing Walter's?
Yes, I've tried their dogs on three separate occasions and I just don't care for them... which is too bad, because it looks like the kind of place I would patronize frequently.

Otto, just remember this for station pix on the New Haven Line: "Triangular catenary, west of Stamford, Compound (flying bar) catenary, east of Stamford." :-D (That is, if catenary is visible in the photos.)

Ah, the memories of pausing on the Rockland Avenue Bridge for trains on my way to Walter's  .
