This past Sunday 9/26 I finally got to see a train on the great green bridge
in Lockport on the Sommerset. I was out chasin my morning coffee
at Tim Horton's ( best on earth IMO) and just caught a conversation
between the NG dispatch and a C&E at Sommer. Form D was issued
for a movement west (south) from the powerplant to the Falls. I did
not get the symbol, B 7?? I think. I flew home with the java and
explained sort of where I was going. (your going where to do what?)
Anyway as I made my way to the corner of W. Jackson St and Stone
Rd the sun was coming up as the fog laid heavy in the creek valley.
What a picture but of course I didn't have the camera. As I was enjoying
the aroma eminating from the waste water treatment plant ,waiting for
my quest I began to understand why some people look at us railfans as
goofy. My dad thought I should be I church. Since I've been trying to
catch a train on this bridge for such a long time I thought of it as a
religious experence.
In about 5 mins. the quiet solitude of the morning was broken
as the unmistakable sound of GE wide cabs approched from my left.
There they were, 762&11 leading 78 emptys across the bridge in early
light, the sound of biting and singing flanges reveberating through the
steel girders and valley walls was absolutely awesome. You really need
to experence this for your self. Bring a tape recorder as you can't hear
this music just anywhere. Hope this story didn't bore you but this is
some of the best fanning I,ve done in awhile.
