Hello

I'm new to this list

I'm gving a presentation about the NH @ the NMRA convention on July 7th in Hartford . Strangley the NH went bankrupt on 7/7/71!
It's entitled a look at the NH thru it's annual reports. I've given similar presentation before on other RRs at prior NMRA events.

I need to photgraph the cover of certain reports from the 1940 & 1950s for the presentation .

I work in Stamford and live in New Canaan.

Thanks for any help

You will probably be better off going to the NHRHTA organization for links to help you on this.
Below is a link to the above organization, when you get on their site, scroll down on the right hand side till you find a link
to the archives at UCONN in Storrs, they will most likely have what you are looking for. You might need to make a trip out
to Storrs to secure your information but the trip will likely be worth while.

Kevin, I have some Annual Reports from 1972... I guess the estate lived on while they reconciled with the Penn Central Corp. over what they were owed as a result of the 1969 merger with PC. I think DRM would be a good choice if you need to see some Annual Reports, I can dig out my 1972 if it helps.

The NH actually declared bankruptcy in June of 1961, not 1971.

I should probably mention that the Annual Report from 1972 are from the ESTATE of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad.

I think the difference in the dates relates to the business concepts of bankruptcy. A company that can not meet it obligations (debts) can enter either chapter 11 or 13 as a method to get their creditors to accept less than full value (usually in exchange for an equity stake in the company). Once this happens a company can 'leave bankruptcy'. If a company can not 'reorganize' in this way they declare chapter 7 bankruptcy which in effect leads to a sale of the remaining assets to pay debts and the end of the company.

In the NH's case the corporation entered bankrupty in 1961 but continued to exist either independently or as a part of Penn Central. In 1971, the corporation went bankrupt and would have ceased to exist as such and, as Otto mentioned, became 'the Estate of...'

The 1972 Annual Report I have discusses mostly what is owed to the Estate from the Penn Central... Apparently, the 1969 merger involved a stock buyout and a cash payout, and neither was ever completed to the satisfaction of the Estate of the New Haven.
