A little late, but I recently came across Mr. Spranger's Obituary.
As a young boy growing up in Green Township, NJ, I vividly recall Mr. Spranger on many L&HR and Conrail trains, always wearing his poka-dot railroad hat on the caboose platform.

MT. BETHEL, Pa. - Kenneth N. Spranger, 90, of Mt. Bethel, Pa., died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at home.
Born in Boonton, Mr. Spranger grew up in Stanhope. He was a World War II Army veteran. Mr. Spranger was a conductor/brakeman for the Lehigh and Hudson River Railway, based in Warwick, N.Y., for more than 50 years before his retirement. A member of the American Legion and VFW, Mr. Spranger also was a former member of Harmony Lodge 8 F&AM.
The son of the late John and Mildred (Francisco) Spranger, Mr. Spranger also was predeceased by his wife, Laverne C. Spranger, on Aug. 2, 2005. He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Frei and her husband, Rick, of Mt. Bethel, Pa., and Linda Mincevich of Winslow, Ariz.; his sister, Lillian Riker, of Hudson, Fla.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Refiners Fire Ministry (old Methodist Church), 100 Division St., Portland, PA 18351.
