deandremouse,

The Board of Trustees of the RMLI wish to have Strasburg Railroad Company remain on the job with Engine #39. (continue with the wheels and axles, etc.) That said, funding remains an issue.

I can tell you that we are actively working four avenues of funding for the #39 project. It is not known at this time if any one, all four, or none of these funding sources will bear fruit. Only time will tell if we are to be successful.

Current estimates for funding remain at $250,000.00 each year for four years, a total of $1,000,000.00 is estimated for completion of Steam Locomotive 39. The current timeline for completion, assuming necessary funding is forthcoming, is sometime in 2015.

Bake sales and Museum admission is not going to generate this kind of money. If you or any other readers know of possible funding sources, please contact me off-line at [email protected]

Thank you for your well wishes, interest and concerns for the Engine 39 restoration project.

SHE'S HERE!
Former LIRR T-54 "Ping Pong" coach arrived around 3am Wed June 17th and was carefully unloaded onto cribbing early am (starting around 8am). Our venerable volunteer forces worked non-stop 16 hours to get the car (#433) unloaded from the transporters and get the truck assemblies undeneath the car and the car lowered onto them safely and as efficiently as possible. The job was finished at MIDNITE!!
A round of applause to our men at the Oyster Bay RR Museum and to the dedicated citizens of Oyster Bay like supporters from Dodds & Eder Nurseries (DAVE) who generously gave of their time and loan of an air compressor to power up the 25 ton car jacks.
We are open Saturdays from 12-4

-great news about the ping pong coach.
-any chance Locomotive 35 could at least be painted and moved to Oyster Bay as a static display till the $$$$$$$$ for a working restoration could be raised? What are the plans?
-I used to love encountering #35 in Eisenhower Park. Really missed it when they moved her away.

As an aside:
here are a few shots of the Worlds Fair Cab.
As you may recall this was a part of the LIRR pavillion at the 1964-1965 NY world's Fair in Flushing Meadows. After the fair closed, it was bought by Camp Tanglewood in the Malverne/Lynbrook LI region. We bought it from them when the camp closed and have spent many hours restoring it to the condition it was at the fair. The only things that are missing are windows in the doors and the Alco builders Plate. Anyone might have an Alco Fa-1 builders plate available for borrowing?
A few shots for you-Please remember that we have NOT YET put on a second coat of grey, attached the horns or put the Dashing Dan decals in place.

This past week-end was the big open house at Riverhead.

Four of us made the trip Saturday despite the rain.
It did clear up as forecast.

The little train was going round & round, the M-1's were open, the layout was running, tents were up with vendors selling stuff. We met the three Dons' incl. Don Fisher, current Pres.

Good Evening,

After a very long day of work, I am pleased to announce that End of Steam Ceremony P-72 2924 is once again in her original as delivered grey color along with BM-62 7737. We were very lucky to have the help of 12 young people to help us with the work. The cars have never looked better! Plans call to put lettering on them in the near future. 7737 previously was in yellow red and blue, to act as a circus car, so it was time to go back to LIRR paint.

I am extremely happy with the result, and despite the fact, I am exhausted and smell like Rustolium, it was an OUTSTANDING day!

Make sure to come out to our Riverhead Site to see them!!!

Anthony- nice to see some progress there! Is this a primer coat? Are you planning on returning to the dark gray paint scheme? What's the intended goal? Are you raising money for a more permanent paint job? You're probably looking at somewhere like $8,000 per car for body prep, bondo, sanding, primer, and finish coat...

Hi Otto,

No, for now that is going to be the permanate coat. Our feelings are, to get more paint on the cars to further preserve them and keeping them from rust. Right now plans call for both cars to be restored to there "Goodfellow" paint scheme and after some rescarch and the help of Dave Keller and Stevn Lynch we will now be able to do them up as they once were. Of course I would love nothing more to start tearing the car apart and fixing it up right with propper metal work but at this time we don't have the funds, people, or a place to work and store the car when done. So for now, most likelt every 4-5 years they will get a fresh coat of paint to keep from rusting and just so they look more presentable to the public.

Right now we are just concerd about the resteration of 39 as far as fundraising etc. goes.

Just some food for thought: A good paint job only has to be applied once and can be restored from fading with a weekend of washing and waxing. You'll spend more over time to re-apply the paint paint every few years. However, getting a coat of paint "preservative" onto the cars is better than nothing at all. Are you going to apply logos and lettering as well?
