Does anybody know what happened to the Valley's 5 SWs after Conrail got them?
I am most interested in #220, since she was the unit that worked the Naples Branch(which i happened to walk today{since it practically backs my property..})
Of course, she only made 3 documented trips to Naples in the Branches waining years of the early 70s.
Does anybody know what happened to this unit?
I am really curious.
Thanks.
Sean

Lehighton:

My notes reveal the following:

Lehigh Valley SW7 #220 (ConRail #8875).....Retired by CR 04 August 1986. Cut up for scrap at Hollidaysburg, PA between September, 1986 and March, 1987.

LVRR #221 (CR #8876).....Scrapped at Hollidaysburg, PA L/85-M/87

LVRR #222 (CR #8877).....Set aside at Altoona 07/81. Not retired as of 07/82.

LVRR #223 (CR #8878).....Scrapped at Hollidaysburg, PA L/85-M/87

LVRR #224 (CR #8879).....Retired 29 July 1981. Stored since 04/81. Awaiting disposition.

My notes are dated and I have not updated them in several years. For some more recent info go to the LV Websites of Interest in this forum and click on the Lehigh Valley Survivors. Scot has done an admirable job keeping track of the final disposition of all LVRR diesel locomotives.

aww, darn. Thats too bad that #220 was lost to the fate of the scrappers torch. Woulda been nice to purchase for display somewhere.
Cheers.

If I recall, the SW7's had an "A" engine which made them much less desirable. The SW1200 and SW900 models had C engines which is why they lasted longer, generally speaking, than the SW7s.
