Mr. Jones, something I think of every time I drive under it, which is usually two times a year. (I reside in Chicago area, but I'm originally from and have family residing in that of New York).

Who actually owns the ROW in the Water Gap area and presumably would be responsible for falling concrete, etc? NJT and PennDOT depending on the side of the river, or someone else?

I’m assuming that these structural issues also apply to the Paulinskill Viaduct, right? It’s not as serious since it doesn’t pass over a major highway, but still.

I shot some new construction / rehab photos of the Roseville Tunnel. Take a look here:

Enjoy !
Hope that electrical conduit has one way weep holes. Condensation and rain leaks have bad habit of collecting in low spots.

If these noted viaducts on the Cutoff are beginning to deteriorate, it's not surprising as the only thing they have hosted in well over forty years are trespassers.

The only one of concern for falling debris is that over the Delaware River, which also X's I-80.

But it shows that in the extreme unlikelihood, that tracks are laid and a train, such as this proposal for NY-Scranton passenger service, operates over such, much work need be done to all the viaducts.

Sure, they are impressive structures, but they have had no maintenance since the track was chopped up.

The Cutoff viaduct over I-80 and the Delaware River is rated 28 out of 100 by NJDoT, it will cost $100+ million to restore it. But since Amtrak Joe is leaving office, and NJT won't begin Andover service until 2027, there is no need to worry since no passenger train will run on the viaduct for many many years.

We are in agreement, Mr. Decell; no train is about to operate over the Delaware River viaduct. The deification of Joe around there will be limited to the Joe Biden Highway in the Scranton area, in addition to the Amtrak station in Wilmington.

"28 of 100"; I presume that means it is on the low end of being a safe structure.

I'll be making a road trip out there again this year. I simply do not need to have my buggy, let alone me, get beaned by a deteriorating structure.

With Mr Biden leaving office and with the incoming administration presumably less friendly to Amtrak, the chance of me taking another ride on the cutoff is nil. The question is, will my children get a chance? Grandchildren?
If the viaduct over I80 continues to deteriorate, it will either have to be fixed or torn down. Which will it be? I guess if it is demolished this thread may finally reach its end.

Mr. Grossman, this epic will likely stay active through the construction of the new ROW to Andover, then it will discuss the "joyrides" members have taken over the new NJT route. So who knows what will finally cause its demise?

When I started this topic now over twenty years ago, it was intended to be maybe a five post "asked and answered". I never envisioned it would become what it has.
