The K became part of the C and the 9 was eliminated since it was a 1 that skipped a few stations in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx.

The 1/9 skip-stop was eliminated in May 2005 and the K (168 St-WTC local) was folded into the C/E in December 1988.

I had forgotten all about the K. Was that designation adopted to replace the AA in order to get rid of the double letters for locals?

H was and is the Rockaway shuttle. RTO still lists the line as H and it can befound in the URL of the Rockaway park timetable

the C express was removed, the C today is the old CC.

Exactly - the AA was renamed K in 1984 as part of eliminating double letter designations. This route wasn't actually folded into other services, it was discontinued and its absence addressed by adjusting where the B and C go during various parts of the day.

There was briefly a line that was called KK and then K in the late 1960's that as part of the Chrystie Street Connection ran on the Jamaica line in Queens and Brooklyn and in Manhattan ran up Sixth Avenue to 57th Street.

Based on old maps, there appears to have been an HH local from Court St. to Euclid Ave. I believe they operated that way for some years until the A began running local in Brooklyn, at which time they ceased running the HH and closed Court St., which made it available as a transit museum. Does anybody know what the intended route designation was for the through-routed trains between Brooklyn and Manhattan via the projected tunnel from Court St. to Chambers St. which was never built? Would the AA simply have run from the Bronx to Euclid Ave.?

Court was closed in June 1946, ENY to Euclid opened 6 month's later.

So was it June 1946 when the A began running local in Brooklyn, replacing the HH, or did something else happen in between?
