I have some NH employee timetables from the 1960's - some times on the schedule pages of passenger trains show the times in italics. Would the italicized times between GCT and NH be those trains operating on the outside tracks (3 and 4) and the standard font those trains using the inside tracks (1 and 2)?

Thanks!

Noel,

I've noticed that in old TTs and assumed that's what it meant, but could never find that it actually said so in so many words. Was it explained somewhere in there and I missed it?

From Rules for the Operating Department dated October 28, 1956 rule 41.
"41. Unless otherwise provided, west or southward trains kand engines will use tracks 1 and 3; east or northward trains and engines will use tracks 2 and 4.
On three or more tracks when trains qare scheduled on other than tracks 1 and 2 the time will be shown in italics (12:45) but trains may run on any track by proper signal indication when authorized by Rules 401 or 411.

Ah, that explains it. I only saw a New Haven rulebook once or twice and never thought of looking beyond the timetable. Thanks.
