Have been hearing some pretty persistent rumors (from people in the industry) that IP may be looking to close down one of its two Maine mills, those being at Jay and Bucksport. Either of those shutting down woud be a big blow to Guilford. You would think that the state would pressure IP to sell to some other company as opposed to just tearing the place down? Anyone else hearing these same rumors.

There was an announcement a couple months ago, where IP said they were going to close down a paper MACHINE in Jay, but not the mill.

IP lost a large paper contract months ago, my next door neighbor who works at Bucksport is now on medication to calm his nerves (that can not be good!) fearing the downsizing that is coming. Do a search on the Bangor Daily News websight. There was an article about future layoffs of up to 1/3 of the Bucksport plant. This article also talked about the struggle American companies have competiting with paper making costs abroad.
