Mr. NHV, I follow your reports on loadings handled by CPKC's "one a day" over the CP-M.

I would think that anyone following this line as you do would be concerned about its principal traffic source - namely the Port of Saint John.

This report from The Journal can only be considered ominous:

Fair Use:
With no end in sight to the industry overcapacity, Maersk had already intensified cost-cutting and doubled down on restructuring efforts and it said it is continuing to focus on cash preservation measures and reducing operating costs.

The escalation of hostilities in the Middle East has offered some support to rates though. Recent attacks on merchant vessels in the Red Sea has forced shippers to divert their vessels by thousands of miles, which has increased their fuel costs but sent freight rates higher.
Even if the maritime company noted, Maersk, does not call at SJ, it's hard to believe that the issues, such as Cape over Canal, are not affecting all companies sailing from Asia to our East Coast.

I think it safe to say that these developments can only adversely affect CPKC, and when Chessie finally has a road with which she can compete for traffic - not necessarily against CPKC - thinking more like highways, there's going to be less to spread around amongst all surface modes.
