Nice day on the Lehigh Line. A little rainy, but the action made up for that.

CLARK, NJ
01. NS 9254 (OLS)-HH 2605
NS 21E 7:26 AM

02. NS 9493-NS 8927
NS 24V 7:36 AM

03. NS 9631-PRR 8406
NS 20K 7:56 AM

ROSELLE PARK, NJ
04. NS 9594-NS 9069-NS 9606
NS 21M 8:35 AM

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ
05. DF 581-FURX 3015-HLCX 9003
CSX Q438 9:44 AM

06. UP 3792-NS 7143-NS 7101
NS 212 9:58 AM

07. NS 9594-NS 9069-NS 9606
NS 21M 10:17 AM

08. HH 9811-ATSF 6317-NS 8986-PRR 3408-HH 6748
NS 19G 10:36 AM

MIDDLESEX, NJ

CSX K652 11:08 AM

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ
10. HH 9811-HH 9885-ATSF 6317-NS 8986-PRR 3408-HH 6748
NS 19G 11:58 AM

MANVILLE, NJ
12. NS 9161-PRR 5424
NS 18N 1:35 PM

13. NS 9519-HH 9782
NS 11J 3:06 PM

That's it. NS 19G was crawling in some places as he only had 3 engines online but 2 of them were having problems. NS 9811 would not load amps under heavy strain, 3408 and 8986 were headed for the shop and 6748 had some kind of trouble with the oil pressure I believe. Seems like the only engine working right didn't even belong to NS. Anyway M9G outlawed on the Royce Runner and 19G was due to outlaw at 11:30 AM. So the crew called for M9G instead changed crews with 19G at Royce. Lehigh Line told 19G to take an engine off of M9G because there was no way he would make it up the mountain without one. So 19G took NS 9885 off of M9G who would later get a crew from Croxton Yard. I believe M9G now was left with one engine on the royce runner, looked like a Conrail GE.

Mike,

To clarify things up, the train with the UP on the point was most likely the 214, NOT the 212,..Also the DF 581 most likely lead the Q410 or the Q-418 cause I saw a CSX train at 7:15am that went east and looked like the Q-438..it had the CSX8862-CSX5905-HLCX7186

Mike,
Thanks for the posting. I was in Phillipsburg yesterday riding the NYSW 142. I did see the 213 at CP Phillipsburg, though at first I wasn't sure if it was the 213 or the 21M. I also saw the 19G roll by while at the old CNJ station. The Sante Fe unit was a great surprise. I also saw 11J as well.

I later found out that the UP train was 212. But I am 100% sure the train I saw was Q438. I heard him clearly say "CSX Q438, no defects, Middlesex, NJ" I think the one you saw earlier was Q418.

Thanks!

I tried to IM a guy who works for CSX and I actually got the son of someone who works with the CEO of CSX and he asked me what I need the trace for....BAD MOVE ON MY PART! I said i WANTED TO TRACE A csx LOCOMOTIVE FOR my own personal use cause I was a Railfan and he threatened to put my name into the CSX police and FBI,Said i was interfering with interstate commerce.........I'm all nervous now and I don't know what to think......I am hoping they will just do a backround check on me and all charges will be dropped.......Further insight on this will be appreciated....

Thanks,
Steve

Tell the moron to go jump in a lake.

1). You weren't interfering with ANYTHING!
2). WHAT CHARGES??? You merely asked a simple question. You were probably speaking with some stupid 14 year old trying to impress his Daddy
3). Let them do a background check. They'll realize that they wasted precious resources for nothing.

Keep me posted on how this shakes out, although I seriously doubt he did anything.....

I wouldn't worry too much about it. To them, the railroaders, yes, railfans may seem like a nuisance. But that is all we are, a nuisance. Cops and folks who don't appreciate railfans may yell, threaten and have a loud bark but at least there isn't much bite they can do to you unless you do something legitimately illegal in which you haven't. It'll blow over. Hey, I always wonder if the FBI will come knocking on my door one day for all of the photography that I do (by legitimate means of course- except I just don't have a permit.)

But, if you mysteriously disappear from the forum, we'll know why. LOL

Mike, where in Middlesex do you usually go? I usually go to South Plainfield, but the morning sun does not favor westbounds that well. Just curious if there is a better spot for the westbound trains.

Middlesex is usually not a place I stop for picture taking. I heard an eastbound was gonna be holding for the 2 westbounds so we followed the slow 19G down to Middlesex and waited for the eastbound. I usually sit right across from the detector in one of the parking lots across the street. I've never had anyone bother me or anything even if I walked across the road and peered into the ditch where the tracks are. :-)
