Those FURX engines are pretty nice not be a wide body with some air conditioning. Ride fairly smooth, the horn doesn't blow your head off even with all the windows and doors open. The 4000's are pretty cool, been on one a few times but we don't see too many new engines where I'm at. Had a trainee forget to unhook the walkway chains on one and rip the grabbars off while uncoupling some engines. The 8000's suck in my opinion. The ride like a 4x4 truck after a blowout and make tons of noise.

CSX Road Slug 2230 with GP40-2 6457 brought NS coal train 506 into South Jersey on July 29, bracketed by NS C40-9W 9876 (primer) and 8935 (black).
Photographed at Carneys Point on July 30.

Many of the 4700/4800's are up north because they are equipped with cab signals and also because they are great on pulling heavy tonnage on steep grades. The negative side of the 4700/4800's is that they are built for pulling and not speed.......never seem to get up to 50MPH as well as the older engines.

As for the 8000's, they are old. the 8800's (former Con-Rail SD40-2's), those are the balls. Yeah they are a bit loud sometimes, but they still got alot of muscle for 25 years old. :-)
