I'm looking for sources of information, either on the Net or publications, concerning the railroad line running from Phila, PA, to Seaside Park, NJ. from approximately 1881 until 1946 (?) My child is a college history major preparing a paper on on the impact of the railroad on expansion and development at the NJ Shore...Ocean County, more specifically Seaside Park. Since the paper must be a minimum of 25 pages...it would not be nearly impossible to have too many sources about such a specific topic. Hope you can help. My dad loved model railroading, wish he was still with us to help...actually, I just wish he was still with us. Thanks!
This line was operated by the Pennsylvania RR, opening in 1881 between Whitings, Seaside Park, and Bay Head, closing after the trestle over Barnegat Bay burned in 1946. The line west of Whitings to Philly was built by the NJ Southern and later sold to Pennsy. Look into Pennsylvania RR books and websites. I wish I can direct you better than this. The people on this forum have some great sources.
This line was established to give the Pennsy a faster way to get to Long Branch from Philly.
John Brinckmann's book "The Tuckerton Railroad" has some related info that can help you. Look for the "Official Guide", a reprint from 1893 is available and quite interesting.
