Calling the eastbound trip "passing through in daylight" might be a stretch...went by 369 just before the sun came up over the tree line. The westbound trip on Saturday passed through Rochester around 10 AM, though....

One of the CSX "Diversity in Motion" units passed through Rochester on the West shore about 4pm today,
9/29/2014, Westbound. 2nd unit of two.

It isnt much to see though..the diversity logo is really getting ratty and worn out,
and it wasnt anything exciting when it was new! ;)

Well, according to C2629 it was just east of Lyons (Sundridge Road) at 0815, so maybe it cooled its heels somewhere in between.

OK, BR&P you asked for it so here it is. The UP 1996 just east of Lyons Friday morning at 0815. Q372 stopped west of Lyons waiting for Q351 and Q167 to go west because of track work.

UP 1989 (Rio Grande) trailing behind a CP GEVO on CSX K408. Sitting under Harlem at Frontier Yard.

The story behind this, was that CP 244 had the heritage, the train came from the Chicago area and was heading to somewhere in Canada and was cut off at London Ontario due to that it wasn't Non- Compliant per Union Rules. CP640 came along and picked it up and head to Buffalo NY.

I'm trying my best to translate "Scott-ish" but not having much luck. Can you spell that out a little better, Scott? Why would they want a non-compliant unit?

Or are you trying to say the DRGW was *NOT* compliant for Canadian union rules?

Different railroads have different union requirements for equipment on the locomotives. For instance, NS units at least always used to have basically a hoop you hung a plastic bag over for a toilet, where Conrail and others at least had a chemical toilet. Which was why NS units leading on Conrail were said to be rare, although I caught them on more than one occasion.

Seats, coolers for water, etc. can all differ - some roads just supplied a styrafoam cooler for water, Conrail units had a mechanical built-in deal. Canadian units seem to have even more required features than US roads, at one point they had to be set up so that if a train got stuck in the snow they had all sorts of emergency supplies.

So when it was discovered to not be equipped as CP T&E union prefers, it was cut off and presumably sent packing on the first train out of the country, or simply as a trailing unit where how it's equipped doesn't matter.

Yes, I'm aware of all that, and I think Canadian units even have hot plates or microwaves too, not sure. What got me was he says the unit was changed because it WASN'T non-compliant. I'm assuming it was a grammatical goof but wanted clarification, maybe there was some reason why a complying engine was sent somewhere else. I'm guessing the American unit did NOT meet their specs. Is that right, Scott?
