At the NS/Amtrak station on West Washington Street, there is a “yard”: maybe 10 tracks in front of the station. Years ago, there was (if I recall correctly) a platform between the first and second tracks and there was a spur leading up to one side of the passenger side of the station, but those are long gone.
With a real yard in Spartanburg and a train-to-truck facility at the Inland Port, both nearby, what’s the Greenville “yard” used for?
Is it just a place for trains to stop and change crews? Or is it a locomotive repair and refueling center (as some locomotives are sitting by themselves there)? Or is it just a surplus piece of real estate?
Thanks.
