For anyone who has known me for a while, I keep mentioning the great picture I got of the Gray Ghost (D&H U-23B #2311) in Colonie back around 1982. I have received several requests for it, and I kept telling everyone that it was buried in the garage. Well, the Red Sea has parted for a second time, and I am in the middle of cleaning the garage. Finally, after 10 years of being MIA, I found it. I will be scanning it and posting it in the next few days. I can't brag about much, but when you see this shot, especially in light of the events this year in Colonie, I think you'll agree I was in the right place at the right time (with a camera for once).

This is only 5 years late. Colonie, Spring of 1982, is my closest guess. Everything in it is gone now, too.

Great shot Kurt!
She's a beauty..

I just did a some googling on this engine,
found a few pages saying the engine was "sold in 1983"
and one reference to it becoming MEC 290.

then this:
"EX-D&H U23Bs transferred to the MEC early June 1983. #281, 288,
sent to M-K Hornell for overhaul 1986. #282 suffered fire damage
at Sanitaria Springs, NY 11/86. #292 wrecked April 10,1987 at
Bangor, ME."

Then I checked Joshua Blay's Surviving D&H Roster, and he only has one D&H U23B listed, and its not the Grey Ghost..
so its not looking good..

thats as far as my research can take me tonight..
