Jaymac, your oh-dark-early gawkings will be missed. The occasional close encounters you've had with the local wildlife at that time of the morning, I'm sure will not be missed. Enjoy sleeping in!

Tnx for the wordss, but -- at least short-term -- I'll be going for lower-hanging fruit, as in the 0801/04-16 Worcester Main posting.
And yes, I do hope our furry friends are grateful for their and my mutually-lessened stress.: It is getting near Deer-Dodging and Skunk-Slaloming Season. However, I will miss seeing rabbits in the Fitchburg platform lot.

You've done a ton of dedicated Gawking. ALL good things come to an end I'm afraid and this is one of them. I am grateful for all your detailed posts. Take a break and put your feet up fur a while. Hopefully we will see a post pop up now and then. Enjoy your sabbatical!!!

Tnx. I did take a trip midmorning on 04-23. While things were brighter, they weren't noisier. The Rte. 2 traffic sounds did override the crickets, but not the occasional garble from AY-1 and AY-4 on Yard Channel.
I still retain my ability to repel trains.

Any idea where P&W will use this rail? Perhaps on the 3 mile section between CSX at CP-45 and CSX at Barbers?

With the dispensary at its old site, I don't think the Cleghorn Cumbie's is in any danger of shutting down from my lack of patronage, but my credit card does feel the relief.

Pre-0900/06-08-2024 being too nice for yard work, I got myself 4 miles W of the highpoint of the B&E where there was also no yard work, although there had been. The yard might even be officially OOS, given that the multitude of scattered, but idled equipment was the only presence S of the mains. To confirm the joint-venture nature of the B&E, there was even a CSX boom truck by the House.
As far as receptions go, it sounded like there might be 1 or more TCs busy just outta clarity range, the only real clarity coming from AY-5 on Yard Channel, presumably at Hill Yard.
As further proof of who I am, there was a refueling stop at the Cleghorn Cumbie's. $3.23 for nonmember regular didn't seem bad until I drove by the Main Street, North Leominster Speedway and saw $2.82.

0600-0750/06-15-2024 was prompted to see what progress had occured at Gardner yard since 06-08. Not much, in short. There was a tracked mini-excavator, a Northeast Rail Services wheeled loader, disturbed ground, and loose new ties in the yard, strings of stick rail N and W of the House and a contractor's contractor dump tucked into the foliage S and E of the compressor house.
The 345s were at Stop, as was the 346 WL at 0655, new tri-liights in place. Where the staged equipment bungalows had gone, couldn't see, but the foliage at First Street and both sides of Coleman has increased. Other changes along Coburn Avenue seem to include that the timber-frame fabricators at the old Saloom Furniture building have either shut down or moved.
If someone knows what is or isn't going on with the yard, pls let the rest of us know.
"Company" radio was never clear, although AMTK Corridor and Boston West were. There was occasional Yard- Channel hash/garble from 0603 until mebbe 0645, but naught attributable. Dispatcher-side came on at at 0610 with what mighta been the South Meadow Street talker giving a no defects. 0727 offered up a brief both-sides-of-Channel-1 hash exchange.
Given the general lack of activity, a straight shot home was made instead of the usual routing.

We appreciate the fuel cost updates and signs of life! Unified usually beats Cleghorn on price but doesn't have the variety of snacks. Getting near time for another trip out there.

0630-0855/06-19-2022 didn't start off as a full-bore Gardner Gawking, but -- as will be seen -- ended up that way. The original purpose was to get a weekday view to see if any thing was actually happening, and there was. 1 B&E and a coupla Northern Rail Services pickups were behind Chair City Oil, the crew a bit further W, looking like they were busy with 1 in the yard, 2 and 4 having mixed freight, including trashes, more about more trashes later. There were the mini-excavator, the loader -- mebbe fouling the #2 -- and the regulator which had been visible earlier, but not on the 06-15 trip. The 345s were at Stop, and the contractor dump S&E of the compressor shack was still there.
Earlier, the 333s and 334s had been dark, but at 0704, 406 let the world know that their air was good and that there was a 15 MPH restriction between 331 and 330. Track? Over at 335, the 1802 and a mix of 3 flats and another bi plus the 1053 got E of the 335 EL/MP at 0708.
On the return E, the 335s were again dark, solar glare making the EB staggers for 330 and 330.8 WBs illegible. There was a long string of trashes E with NS power back W from the solar-glared 330 WLs. At 0740, the B&E told EDSA he'd take them down to Fitchburg to drop their trash.
At the platform, the 330 ELs showed a Medium Clear for the CS. There was 0742 Dispatcher-side hash, probably from the FI-1 C on Channel 1 who advised at 0746 that 2 was clear and that FI-1 could come ahead. There would be later car countdowns, as well as Yard-Channel hash involving the Thoroughfare.
At 0749, 403 -- 4 behind -- stopped at the platform with the 1124, 1 bi, 3 flats, and the 1820, getting on the move the next minute and making noise x2 at 0752 for any pedestrians near EDSA..
At 0756, FI-1 told themselves they had a Restricting -- FG? -- and that they could back it up..
At 0801, EDSA on 1 called out a Slow Approach on the GL WL, and 1 later, the B&E told EDSA he might have to talk to them at FG. NSs 6958, 8070, and 7659 crept by with 1 covered hopper mixed in with 22 slurries, then a few mixed general, and then trashes. My count got interrupted at 50 positions when the B&E advised FI-1 about some *broken* problems. 0815 was when EDSA told the B&E that they were stopped at FG, the tail trash even with the station head house, the B&E advising he might have to take some switches off power.
FI-1 said they had 2 cars to move and that that might clear up the signals, but it didn't, FI-1 having to complete ther runaround variously at 330 or 333.
Did I mention this was a weekday? 408 was now in the picture, the B&E advising he didn't yet know what he was going to do, but it might involve 408 backing out of the station. I had been doing what few others involved in this could do -- going E -- so receptions got worse.
25-35 minutes delay for 408 account "signal issues" was posted to the T website when I got home. So glad I'm not a 408 rider.

06-28-2024 had a brief stop at Gardner. For those who haven't seen Al LaPierre's. http://photos.nerail.org/s/?p=279671. , that's how it looks IRL. The yard itself was MT -- no freight, no equipment, no crews -- and the 345 WLs were at Stop. Mebbe I'd forgotten about it, but the line pole just E of the compressor shed is listing to the S.
