I heard a rumor (from a CSX employee) that the Fort Wayne line may soon be for sale or lease. Anyone else heard anything like this?

There are a number of lines on the chopping block, including the Fort Wayne Line and Toledo Branch Subdivision. I had my money on NS buying the Ft. Wayne Line back, but from what I've seen recently that's not in the cards. The Toledo Branch Sub would seem to fit with the Indiana & Ohio system, but it remains to be seen if RailGenerica can come up with the capital to purchase it. There is also a rumour that NS is going to sell the Lima District from Morris to DA, and again this would seem to fit well with the I&O, but the same problem remains.

What exactly is the Toledo Branch Sub? Is that the line from Fort Wayne to Woodburn?

I thought this line was torn up, from Toledo South - The one that used to run through Fostoria.

called the Chicago, Ft. Wayne & Eastern Railroad ("CFER"),

Collectively referred to as "the Ft. Wayne Line," effective August 1,
2004. CSXT will retain ownership of the track, as well as the
underlying and appurtenant real estate, and will lease that real
estate and trackage to Central Railroad Company of Indianapolis.

As a result of the lease, CERA expects to hire approximately
twenty-four (24) operating employees, one (1) carman, two (2)

The RailAmerica site notes the following positions will be filled:

to work shift work. Must be willing to work more than the regular work
week at different times of the year."

There were actually 2 T&OC lines, the one through Fostoria (Abandoned) and the one through Bowling Green and Findlay. The one through BG is the Toledo Branch Sub. They both went to Stanley Yard in Toledo.

The Eastern Branch (the line through Fostoria) went into the south side of Stanley Yard. The Western Branch (the line through Bowling Green) went into the north end of Stanley Yard. When the Eastern Branch was taken up this removed the southern access to Stanley Yard and setup the singled-ended arrangment of the yard used today.
