Was looking on old aerials and maps and noticed a spur from the end of the Rumford Branch that hooked around to the west along the river and ended at a small yard in Rumford Falls south of where S. Rumford Road crosses.

Any idea what they used the yard for? The spur to it appears to have been removed in the 60's.

That mill is below the falls, where the siding was above. I had been looking for information on this for years, because the grade is visible from Route 2, across the river.

There was a sluice way that went along side the tracks, perhaps built before the railroad, to transport logs around the falls. These tracks could have been built to move the logs around the falls and down stream or down the line to another mill, once they were on the rails.
