Thought I'd pass this info. on to this site also. In March, I observed CSXT 8973 leading an east bound CSX manifest freight at Lyons NY MP 335 on the former NYC Water Level Route. This unit is one of 3 ex EL/CR SD45-2's still running on CSX. This unit was in the "bright future" paint, still retaining the 5000 gal. fuel tank and air horns offset over the engineers side of the cab. On Sunday May 16th, while working Q362-15 into Selkirk Yard, I observed CSXT 8974 another ex-EL/CR SD45-2 in the new "Dark Future" paint, sitting just east of Selkirks Sanding Towers. I believe this unit is currently being utilized by yard crews as pulldown power for the class yard. It's nice to see these units still soldiering on.

I believe only one of the SD45-2s is a converted SD40-2 all the rest still retain the 20-645E3 prime mover. Proof that by the -2 model EMD had solved the problem with 20 cylinder beast. If I'm right the only ones converted to the 16 cylinder was because at the time of the overhaul the 20 cylinder block still was way more money than a 16 cylinder block. Oh and theres no mistaken the E-L horns.
