Formatting: Where did the spaces go?

I can't seem to get my posts to look the way I want to. I just want to begin a new line of text separate from the first paragraph.While posting this it looks like it will work but when I preview it it becomes one big paragraph. Help?

use enters not spaces

Always use carriage returns ("enter" or "return" key) to separate paragraphs.
