I said the samething after playing with it in PS and i saw the smoke in the mirror i was like dam!

Here's a novel concept....

Instead of whining about the screeners, rejected shots, unfairness, cliques, and RP.net in general on this forum, why not go over to the site itself. There's a message board over there too, and I'm sure that the administrators and the screeners would welcome the chance to refute some of the more juvenile claims and mistruths that have been spewed here.

Those boring shots have nothing that can be used for rejecting it therefore they HAVE to accept it. In the northeast its very hard to get those fun sunlit telemash wedgies like in California or Illinois.
This one got rejected for poor cropping. I disagree, but im not going to cry about it.

If most people took the time to learn how the site works (I'm not singling you out) you would know that you could appeal the photo explaining the rarity of it and whats going on. Say you wanted to include the bridge and train in the distance. Personally I think this is a great shot and I'm sure if you tried it again it would be accepted.
This one for to much sharpening.

Like I said in my original post you didn't look at this photo in depth and realize you got the train out of focus. If you hadn't included the mirror it would have come out great. RP.net doesn't have screeners that will go "well you should have done this but...we'll accept it anyway". It can always be redone so they wait until it is.
This one for bad lighting. My favorite shot too.

I agree this should have been accepted which I will just mention the appeal feature again.
Bad shadow, which is the only pic i agreed with. I thought it had a shot.

I'm sure if you caught a tired screener early in the AM this could get on as well. But at least you realized what they rejected it for and took it well.
I do have other pics where i thought its a nice pics lets see what happens. Also had alot of rejections when i first started doing more photography of trains end of last year.

I've wanted to write to the webmaster or whoever at the site and ask about why not have a section for best rejections? Have some good shots that just missed the cut and have the top 10 featured?
It looks like you are one of the few people that understood the rejections you got and learned from them. I'm sure you have a lot of winners that RP would love to see and accept as well as some that won't make it but its worth a shot. Keep up the great work. Unfortunately, I don't pay attention to rrpicturearchives because there is too much crap to go through there to get to quality photos.

As for the rejected photo feature its basically an issue of space.

andrew, for the first pic i did appeal it and usually try to appeal most pics with an explanation. But after cropping it and trying to get out the most uselss areas. Even after that i still got bad cropping. But you live and you learn.

Like I said you are one of those people that aren't included in the "foamer" category because you don't dwell, you, well, live and you learn and get better everytime you pick up the camera. I stand by what I said, I enjoy your work more than anyone else's I've ever seen posted outside of RP.net. Keep it up!

Okay, here's one that seems like poor lighting, bad cropping, or pick your favorite rejection reason. And it's not like ordinary freight trains are rare on this site. I could see being less strict for rare subject matter...

I don't really see anything wrong with that shot. It's a bit tight for my taste, but so what. That picture has less than 200 views.

I am bothered by the shadows in the picture, especially the one that covers the front of the locomotive. I see no more wrong with that picture than mine (http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g166/ ... LIC165.jpg) that was rejected for distracting shadows; the shadows being the locomotives themselves!

This pic (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=153400) that I consider one of my weaker ones, gets accepted for some reason, go figure...

See, what drives me nuts about Railpictures is that it seems that they want you to photoshop the pics. Personally, I don't like that. Sure, photoshop can make a weak picture into a great picture, but they should have a seperate section for untouched and raw pictures.

RRPA.net, if they give you an account, will let you upload any pics, raw or competely photoshopped/chopped. And you also get more of a variety of pics there, becuase more novice photographers can post, and post interesting subjects and pics. And its also for those of us who don't have photoshop, or can't use it well!!!!!!!

IMO, railpictures becomes more of a photoshop skills contest then anything else.

hsr, i agree with you 100 percent - some of those pics i bet if taken by anyone else, would be rejected - it doesn't matter the number of views, its the fact that its up there. Of course, its their website, they can do anything they want, and thats how life is, but still..................
