Received this from NNEPRA this morning:

"In addition, [Governor Baldacci] announced a mutual goal of adding a fifth round trip between Portland and Boston in 2005 and a pilot project in summer 2004 to operate excursion trains from Portland, Brunswick and Rockland along Guilford's lines and the Maine DOT's Rockland Branch. The excursion trains will be operated by the Maine Eastern Railroad (M&E subsidiary) and will likely serve festivals and special events in Rockland."

:( "Rumors" abound that Maine Eastern is having some "power" and coaches sent up from N.J. for this, but the trains will originate from Brunswick, and probably be only for "special festivals",such as the Rockland Seafood Fest. etc. What there WONT be,is ANY trains from Portland TO Brunswick! No,not on Guilfords 5-10 mph "Brunswick Running Track" from CPF 185(Royal Jct. in Cumberland were it diverges from the "freight mainline" to CPL 14 in Brunswick, where State of Maine tracks begin! While it May be safe for rubble from Maine Yankee,it wont see a passenger train until it is rehabed. Too Bad,as Freeport would be an ideal stop for shoppers! Some of the $$$ set aside for this rehab, may well be used to "subsidize" the Downeasters defict. Bud
