Cross channel rail operator Eurostar saw both revenues and passenger numbers rise last year as passengers chose train over plane. This is before the recent disturbance in the air industry, which has driven more people on to the trains.
Eurostar carried 7.5 million passengers in 2005, a 2.4 per cent increase, boosted by a 14 per cent rise in business class traffic.
This increase meant that the train operator accounted for 71 per cent of the total London-Paris passenger market in 2005, as well as 64 per cent of London-Brussels traffic.
Revenues also rose by seven per cent last year to £464 million as a result of the passenger uplift.
