In the August 1941 issue of Trains Magazine there is an article about Pere Marquette fast freight service. 'Elastic spikes' are mentioned in a photo caption describing the track near St. Joseph, MI.
"The double track at this point is laid with 112-pound rail on washed gravel roadbed and with elastic spikes."
What are elastic spikes???
