I understand from old timers that prior to sometime in the early-mid 1930's that the semaphore masts were painted yellow. After the mid-thirties they were painted black as we have been able to see in many color photos.
Does anyone have information on this to shed additional light as to how they were painted ? What color was the case at the base, ladder etc.
