From The Recorder:
The Recorder wrote:With projects to clean up pollution at the Pan Am Railways yard in East Deerfield underway, some town residents are worried that the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co.’s route will pass through the property and further spread contaminants.

Lynn Rose, a former member of the town’s Planning Board who has been working with Pan Am for 15 years to get the site cleaned up, said she’s concerned that construction activities related to the pipeline project or an incident such as an explosion after it becomes operational may disturb the contaminated soil and a partially polluted aquifer on the property, complicating the clean-up process by further dispersing the pollution.
. . .
Maps provided by Kinder Morgan to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as part of the project’s pre-filing process show that the pipeline is projected to pass through the southern-most tip of the rail yard before crossing the Connecticut River.
