BNSF has done three things to "improve" the safety on TWC territory. Actaully its just CYA on the carrier so they can blame someone else.

First they have instaleld switch point indicators. Not the old targets, but there are radio boxes that have an electric type of sensor in them. If the switch is not lined and locked down, locked being foot lock not switch lock, a radio signal is sent to the dispatcher and he gets an indication.

Second. When a meet is planned or has taken place, regardless of the passage of time and one train is or has been given authority to leave a switch in the open position, the next train, regardless of direction is only given authority up to that switch. You then roll the track up to the rear end of the train and the dispatcher gives you a new track warrant to include directions to insure the switch is lined for your movement.

Third. After lining the switch, you must call the dispatcher and "give" the switch back and report that it has been lined a locked.

I guess it works, but it sure slows things down. After all, we're their's for 12 hours and they want their pound of flesh.

Saw something on the news that 50% of tracks inthe US are dark.
