I can't add anything on why 4204 is heading to Morristown, but the following may be of interest. The 4204 is another of the former CP Rail C-424's that has been upgraded with a former Big M alternator, the same configuration as the 2 that went to the WNY&P (4223, 4228). The spotting features are the raised section on top of the air intake area and the third air tank needed for the air start on an alternator equipped Century. Normal ph 4 C-424's don't have an air tank on the LHS, just the 2 on the other.
Cheers
Steve

Thanks for the help I hope she will be used and not scrapped.

The "H-02" list reports that H-02 brought the 4204 east from Washington yesterday. No sighting of it in Morristown yet so its probably sitting in Lake Junct.

I hope it isn't scrapped either, however the reason why M&E probably buys these engines could be for parts to keep the 18 and 19 going... I thought alco parts are scarce today!

I meant to copy and paste my post here as well, but it seems that I forgot. Thanks for taking care of it!

Also, confirmed that it is at Lake Junction for the weekend (photo not mine):

I would hope not, but I think that's what's going to happen. 4216 is slowly on its way back to life (as evidenced by its periodic returns to the shops, as well as Rudy's past statements), so the only part unit they have is 4231. They had 4240, but it was scrapped two years ago. I imagine that it would be hard for them to use one part unit for four operable units.

Also, it was 742, not 740 as previously reported, that was scrapped last week. Here's a photo of it (incorrectly labeled as 799, but it is 742) during scrapping (photo also not mine):

People really need to stop saying Alco parts are getting hard to get, because it is flat out not true. You can still get it all, most of which brand new as well..

Same goes for the classic car world, as "reproduction" parts for many models are available, along with "NOS" (new original stock).

The RR dosen't even use the RR they load all the scrap in trucks!!!

4204 is now in Morristown sitting in front of the engine house on track 2. Baggage car 1002 looks to be next to get torched. How the scrap is transported is up to the purchaser and if they're at all local trucks the way to go. Scrapper's buying it to make money on resale/disposal.

Is the RR actually cut up the cars & loco's or are they scavenging them for parts a someone else cuts them up?

4204 is going to run. It's an RRPX engine. I'll update that roster momentarily.

We contracted professional scrappers to actually scrap the cars, but the mechanical staff stripped them of parts first.

Rudy,

Would you happen to know where the P5 that was temporarily put on 489 for the Christmas Excursions came from? The engine used to have a K5 on it (any idea what happened to it?), but ME always dismantles the horn on that unit when being transported and in for work or storage. Thanks
