The early morning train your aunt saw was B726 (MI-1). It is out of Middleboro Sundays through Thursdays and swaps cars with B725 (FR35) at Boro.

Maybe I'd say.............45 mph, don't know, for sure.........

Amtrak's Cape Codder used to go that way too thru Taunton to get to the Cape, but that's history now, and just CSXT now serves that route.

Far from 45 Robert.....even our main line is 50MPH at the most on the B&A. Most of the Secondary tracks have a 25MPH max. however, it depends on track condition (i.e. Fall River is about 10MPH average)

By the Dean Street branch, I assume you mean the Bay Colony's
Dean Street Industrial Track that starts at Weir Jct in Taunton.
Speed is 10MPH.

As for the mainline (and disregarding the lack of a current CSX
Temporary speed summary for reference):

Middleboro Subdivision:
Attleboro to Whittenton Jct is 30 for both passenger and freight.
From Whittenton to Oak Street is 20MPH
Through downtown Taunton is only 10MPH (all the crossings)
with a bump to 15MPH just before Weir Jct.
Weir Jct to Cotely Jct is 25MPH
Cotely Jct is 10MPH.
It's 10MPH to New Bedford and Fall River.
